Caribou County Marriage License Records

Marriage licenses are issued by the Caribou County Clerk's Office in Room 202 of the courthouse. The office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including the lunch hour, and is closed on state holidays. If the ceremony will take place in Idaho, the couple needs an Idaho license. If the ceremony will take place in another state, the couple needs a license from that state instead.

For adults, both parties must appear before the clerk and complete the Marriage License Affidavit. The county requires proof of identity, such as a driver's license, state ID, or military ID, and Social Security numbers. The county issues two copies. After the ceremony, the person who performs the ceremony fills out both copies, and the couple returns both to the clerk's office for recording. The clerk sends one copy to the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Boise and sends the other home with the couple, along with a certified copy for name-change use.

Caribou County also gives specific return instructions for the completed license copies. The ceremony official fills out both copies after the marriage. The county page says applicants age 16 or 17 must both appear in person and that one parent must be present to sign for each applicant under 18. It also contains an under-16 reference to a magistrate judge appointment and court order. Because age rules can change and minor applications are sensitive, the county-specific instruction should be confirmed through Room 202 or the magistrate court number before travel.
